⛧Crowley and the Entity Known as Lam
One of the most peculiar images found within occult canon is that of Lam, a being featured in Aleister Crowley’s portrait, a creature with a bald, large head, and a slender face which resembles nothing less than the modern Gray alien.
However, there is more to the story of Lam than what can be read in today’s popular online publications.
First of all, Crowley’s famous encounter of 1904 was not with Lam. This was Aiwass, the non-corporeal intelligence believed to have been dictating The Book of the Law to Crowley in Cairo on April 8-10, 1904. Crowley referred to himself as “the minister of Hoor-Paar-Kraat,” and the text has become one of the most crucial components of Thelema.
Only later did Lam appear.
The portrait of Lam, also known as "The Way," made its debut on paper in The Equinox Vol. III, No. 1, published in 1919. Traditionally, this image is attributed to the Amalantrah Working of 1918, a series of unusual visionary experiences involving eggs, gateways, transmissions, and communications with praeter-human intelligences.
It would take little to explain what makes Lam such a fascinating figure.
The fact that Crowley drew an unusually eerie spirit does not matter much on its own. What really catches the eye about Lam is how familiar his face seems to our culture. The huge skull, the tiny mouth, the diminished facial characteristics. It all looks very much like the faces depicted in close encounters. Long before the Gray alien became an archetype, Crowley provided a face resembling those described by abductees.
Kenneth Grant, one of the most prolific authors within Crowley’s legacy, went even further when interpreting Lam. Within the context of the Typhonian Current, Lam became not only an image but a portal, a point of contact with realities unknown to the average human perception.
What is interesting about Lam and the entire story is that it opens up a certain question.
Are some of the creatures that contemporary Ufology refers to as "aliens" nothing else but the continuation of an age-old phenomenon of occult contact? Are names, masks, and languages different, while the Phenomenon itself remained unchanged? #ufox #ufotwitter
