take this as a sign to build up a physical library again guys. that goes for games, books, movies and music. we literally don't own anything anymore. these subscriptions are piling up. i'm sick of it.
remember when not only you would get a disc but you’d also get a case with meaningful cover art along with a manual that taught you how to play (and often included fun additional lore tidbits) and hell sometimes they’d even throw in a poster for free just for fun
ff7 remake is so funny everyone just stands and watch cloud literally shake and talk to himself fully hallucinating and collapsing and Then they’re like Omg !! 😭😭😭😭 they don’t gaf this is usual from him
im genuinely so curious how they plan to sell the ps6 at this rate cuz holy shit ive never seen a company shoot their console dead before its even announced
I haven’t mentioned this too much here, but recently I lost my PlayStation account and all my digital games to a hacker.
But guess what? All my physical games are still sitting comfortably on my shelf.
Your digital games are tied to an account, your physical games aren’t.
Without physical games:
- Midnight launches are dead
- Collectors Editions lose half of their value
- You can’t share, trade, or sell your games
- You can’t buy used games
- If there’s a server outage, you’re shit out of luck
- YOU OWN NOTHING
People don’t realize how much this could change the gaming market.
When physical games disappear, it doesn’t just affect collectors. It affects the entire ecosystem around gaming.
Retro game stores? Many of them survive because people still buy, sell, and trade physical games. As physical media declines, some of those stores will have a much harder time staying open.
Collector’s Editions? If everything becomes digital, what’s the incentive? Are people really going to spend $200+ for a few digital cosmetics and a downloadable license? A huge part of what made those editions special was owning something tangible.
And don’t think retro prices won’t be affected. As fewer physical games are produced, the older ones become even more desirable. Supply goes down, demand goes up, and prices climb even higher.
This isn’t just about preferring discs over downloads. It’s about ownership, preservation, accessibility, local game stores, collectors, and the future of gaming as a whole.
There’s so much more at stake than people realize, and I don’t think the long term impact is good. #supportphysicalmedia
I don't think I can stress enough how GOD AWFUL Sony has been this entire generation and their decision for no more disc Is final nail in the coffin for me me I'm done with playstation after PS5, genuinely I hope PS6 flops harder than Wii U
what sucks is that you can still buy physical media for movies and music. you can still buy a CD for new albums! the options are still there. it's wild to just be like "no options from now on"
