@imbackitsjojoIG @JulieBr65035140@ajamubaraka The 91 agreement *suggests* that the US and UK would defend Ukraine but doesn't say it verbatim. The assumption was that Russia wouldn't take the chance and that we wouldn't have to do anything. So basically NATO challenged Russia to a game of chicken and then punked out.
@falcon_0_4 The Chomsky dude is going home 100%. I'll give you 50/50 odds on Pedagogy. But if anyone asks what the book is about you definitely need to say it's about how to teach Critical Race Theory.
@BecuzRaceR@ChUzairRandhawa @AnthonySpina94 @thor_benson People in Turkey actually got cancer from Chernobyl though. Who got cancer from Chernobyl in the UK? Trace radiation isn't in the same ballpark as the effects seen in Belarus
@ChUzairRandhawa @AnthonySpina94 @thor_benson The explosion wouldn't reach the UK. The radius of effect for the actual meltdown was like 200 miles. Huge yes but you're much further away than that. Even with the wind moving radioactive particles around the edge stopped around Turkey.
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames Sadly this is true. The messaging game is completely different now. Some of these issues might be unfixable in the short term. But in the meantime we've gotta experiment. It took a long time for things to get this had and it'll take a long time to fix it
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames The voters are hearing what they want to hear. In my state we actually had Republicans campaign on defunding education in 09. Not one single person asked what we were gonna do without schools. Everyone understood that "defund=reduce budget". But now everyone's confused somehow.
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames Defund is not a "nuance of reform". Please stop saying that. Reform doesn't work because it always gives cops more money. Defund takes money away and reduces the size of the dept.
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames Reforms have definitely been rejected. What's even worse is that sometimes they get pased and then police depts remove them later w/o telling people.
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames Why do I think the guy using the word reform in every tweet supports reform? Good question. But why are you talking about abolition in a thread about defunding? Do you think those are the same thing?
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames You think reform will work because you don't know anything about the history of policing. We've been asking for "reform" for almost 70 years. So what are you suggesting that's different from the "reform" proposals 10 years ago? Do you even know what those proposals were?
@DKFlyingtiger@tlpq1@QJames Just wondering...what do you think was the origin of policing? Did they have cops on the Mayflower? Have you ever even thought about this before?
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames This sounds nice in theory but in reality cops spend literally 80% of their day dealing with homeless people, noise complaints and similar misdemeanors. And these are the calls where they're shooting people. But why are we sending a guy with a gun to go talk to homeless people?
@DKFlyingtiger@QJames What you're describing has nothing to do with defunding & here's why. The job of a cop is to solve problems with violence. What reform does is try to focus that violence on a slightly smaller group of people. Defund aims to remove the violence entirely.
@QJames Here in Atlanta we've been asking for "reform" since our very first police brutality protest in 1948. I don't think this strategy wins as much as you think it does. "Reform" is a meaningless buzzword that doesn't ask police depts to take any specific course of action.
