But commissioners were surprisingly receptive to hearing abt harms to communities & public trust, and seemed concerned abt how little pretext stops accomplish, per the data. They wanted to hold more public hearings on the topic, so any policy changes are unlikely to happen soon.

The motion now goes to the mayor's desk, but will ultimately need to be taken up by the Police Comm. During LAPD's most recent presentation to the Comm. on pretext stops, they took great umbrage @ the idea that the stops could be racist, so they no doubt will have much to say.

It was an emotional hearing and a personal one for many on the dais. Council Prez Harris-Dawson spoke to the fear he saw in the adults in his family as a child - something many speakers referenced as well. CM Hutt openly sobbed talking about her fears for her three Black sons.
