Horror in North Belfast: Man Fights for Life After Brutal Street Stabbing and Apparent Beheading Attempt

Police have arrested one man after a violent stabbing in north Belfast on Monday night, with a second man hospitalised with serious injuries.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were called to Kinnaird Avenue shortly after 10: 30 p.m. last night following reports of the incident. A knife was recovered at the scene.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the PSNI said: “A man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is in police custody while a second man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.” Officers remained at the scene into Tuesday morning, with the area cordoned off as forensic enquiries continued.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1654 08/06/26, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

Graphic video footage circulating on social media appears to show the aftermath of the attack, with bystanders intervening to pull a man off another who was on the ground. Witnesses in the video can be heard shouting phrases including “He’s trying to cut his head off.” It was reported that residents used a hurley to help stop the assault before police arrived.

DUP councillor Jordan Doran described the incident as “completely unacceptable,” stating that the community is in “significant fear” and anxiety. He called for a swift and robust police investigation.

As of Tuesday morning, no further details have been released regarding the identities of those involved, any possible motive, or the current condition of the victim beyond the initial report of serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
