(3/3) I am delighted that the Trust involved has admitted fault and provided the funding that this girl will certainly need throughout her life. I wonder how long it took for that concession to be made. In my own cases it is rare for a hospital to accept blame until the trial.
(1/3) This is a concerning story and a shocking outcome. I only wish it was unique but sadly I have handled dozens of claims where a child with red-flag symptoms of sepsis or Group B Strep is misdiagnosed with another, less harmful condition.

(2/3) Some infections are subtle and the most diligent doctor or nurse might overlook small changes in a child's or baby's condition but simply too many stories, of which this is one, involve obvious evidence about something as harmful as this.
(5/5) I sincerely hope this entire culture changes and soon, so that those who are unhappy with any aspect of #medical treatment can raise this without fear of recrimination.
(1/5) When my colleagues and I investigate allegations of substandard #medical treatment in hospitals and #GP surgeries around the country, we usually encourage our clients to raise their concerns.

(4/5) It is shocking to read that those who have done so in this particular #hospital, as occurred in the #Bristol heart scandal of the 1990s, have been punished as a result.
(3/3) My colleagues at Tozers and I sadly see this all too often and I welcome the suggestion that hospitals who deliberately cover up the facts behind these tragedies should be prosecuted for doing so.
(1/3) Even in such a disturbing report, one sentence jumps out at the reader - 'Only 22% of women who died had received good care'.

Here is an excellent report on #groupBStrep by the well respected HSIB. Hopefully this means proper changes in training of clinicians – https://t.co/6qS3IOSUI4

#groupBStrep affects nearly 1:2000 births in the UK; a total of over 700 fatal or neonatal infections annually, of which approximately 10% tragically die.
We want to help @GBSSupport raise awareness through #GBSAM2022#GBSaware
Early treatment for #GBS infections saves lives so awareness of the early signs is vital. See here what to look out for – https://t.co/Rp9E71OULB
