Heavy engineering work continues to rebuild Shepreth branch junction as whole track panels are lifted and moved into place using remote track panel lifters. Rail grinding is taking place as well as welding and stressing the rails.

The Northumberland Line reopened to passengers – for the first time in 60 years – this morning.

They can now travel along the line on Northern services which call at Newcastle, Manors, Seaton Delaval and Ashington.

🚉 Truly delighted to welcome the brilliant @HuwMerriman MP to Chalkwell Station today to discuss the continuing, outrageous delays to installing a new lift.

🚄 Huw became the first Rail Minister to visit a @c2c_Rail station since 2018 and we believe he's the first Rail Minister to ever come to #Southend.

🚫 The delays to the lift are completely inexcusable, despite being initially promised funding for the lift in 2019, it kept getting delayed and finally when work was meant to start in "Spring 2024", it was delayed again.

😡 The date keeps getting kicked further down the road which is completely inexcusable. Further delays mean that people like the inspirational disability campaigner, Jill Allen-King are forced to walk down the steps to access the platform, which is quite simply, dangerous.

🤝 I was glad to welcome the Minister and key stakeholders, including c2c, @networkrail and local councillors to make it crystal clear that further delays will not be accepted and work needs to start as soon as possible for all my constituents.

Today we remember the crew of the Penlee lifeboat RNLB Solomon Browne who were lost 42 years ago today, whilst on a mission to rescue the Union Star cargo ship

In April 2019 we proudly named Intercity Express Train 802008 after them

More than 200 poppy wreaths were carried to the capital as part of #PoppiestoPaddington 2023 today.

Five ‘Poppy’ trains – starting from Plymouth, Carmarthen, Taunton, Worcester Shrub Hill & Great Malvern – made their way to Paddington ahead of the remembrance service at the iconic war memorial.
