the 2019 GU272 referendum. We hope this town hall provides a platform for the university to directly address the larger community. We all deserve to receive concrete answers regarding the status of where the university stands vis-à-vis the student body and descendant community.
by President DeGioia and other members of the administration who were involved in this process. We formally invite President DeGioia, the members of the student body, and members of the larger Georgetown community to a town hall on April 12th - the anniversary of the passing of
@thehoya GU has not spoken with us about their plans. What we heard directly from admin was “were planning now to re-engage a number of efforts. One of those would be our work to move forward on establishing a reconciliation fund.” We do not believe this signals any tangible step forward
@thehoya This information is misleading. Georgetown admin met with GUSA reps and told them that they plan on establishing a reconciliation fund. The University did not clarify whether this fund would be the original GU272+ referendum or the voluntary fund they proposed last fall.

So Georgetown acts like it supports racial justice, but won’t implement the GU272 Referendum or countless demands from Black students? Write an email to administrators and Board of Directors (who meet tomorrow) to remind them we will not be ignored.

The Board of Directors meets again tomorrow. Help us remind them that we will not sit idly by while they ignore their responsibilities to pay back the debt to descendants of the GU272+. Send an email using this template: https://t.co/la7SgWoiMn
Georgetown decided to participate in a disgraceful act of PERFORMATIVE SOLIDARITY by announcing Juneteenth as a university holiday.
Our institution only stands because of the institution of slavery. Your words mean nothing. Implement the referendum @Georgetown.
#Juneteenth marks the celebration of emancipation in the United States. The holiday, sometimes known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union general Gordon Granger read federal orders stating that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free.
On June 19th, 1838, Georgetown University sold more than 272 human beings in order to keep the college open. It’s been 182 years and no reparative justice effort has been implemented.
It’s been over 400 days and the GU272 referendum has still not been implemented.
