@AvgWeebNextDoor It was a toss up between RM and Bamboo Blade, with TTGL, Lucky Star, Lovely Complex and Emma (2) all in the running as well.
RM had a confluence of elements which were particularly significant to me personally in 2007, so it won out.
@Allodoxaa Well, that's the "point" of asserting some objective metric though right? That's why all the databases have numerous bases to rank anime, to present the idea of critical or popular consensus.
That's why "my favourite" is not implicit when discussing AOTY.
@Allodoxaa Best, I feel, has a marked quality which skews towards a more objective hierarchy, whereas favorite necessitates the subjective in a less hierarchical manner?
2023-2025 was a lot harder than I initially thought.
2026 will probably turn out to be "Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You", but it onyl seemed fair to limit it to seasons which are complete.
Being in the presence of die hard fans getting to witness the conclusion of the source of their passion elevates the experience in a way that's simply not possible watching at home.
If you like TADC you owe it to yourself to see it in theatres.
@Allodoxaa Yeah, I've been keyed into the show for a while and I thought it was a satisfying conclusion.
That my guess about things was correct probably contributes to said satisfaction.
@Allodoxaa No, see, blades are always removed on the precise trajectory they enter the body, and as these blades taper as they approach the tip, the wound left behind is wider than the point of entry, so there's no secondary contact.
@Webtoon_art@wonderinganime No, no that's just incorrect, like full stop to the point where almost everything you've said is wrong.
There were child/reluctant pilots before Eva there were manly/hot blooded pilots after Eva.
Please stop spreading misinformation on the internet.
@CaribouCoon Gotta tell you, one of the most delightful experiences I've had is ripping into golden age shōjo manga and devouring 40 volumes over days.

Princess Sapphire did not have magic of any kind, so the idea that she's the origin of the magical girl is as nonsensical as Tezuka inventing shōjo.
The death of genre discourse which can be traced back to the emergence of The Sandwich Alignment Chart ~ 2016 an utter disaster!
This is going to complicate the question of whether Princess Knight is a magical girl when you just give them a transformation sequence haha
That genre does seem to be what they're going for spiritually, but there's something crucial missing...but folks will go with it anyway 🤷
@KuudereKun888 Absolutely!
Important works like ribbon no kishi were part and parcel of the genealogy of the genre, it's just that popular framing usually starts with "Princess Sapphire, the first Magical Girl", and that's what I'm pushing back against.
