Busqué yo mismo el teléfono oficial del banco y llamé desde cero.

No había ninguna transferencia.

El supuesto empleado llevaba varios minutos intentando conseguir justo lo que necesitaba para entrar en mi cuenta.

Y aquí está lo peligroso: yo siempre había pensado que una estafa se notaba porque alguien hablaba raro, no sabía tus datos o llamaba desde un número sospechoso.

Pues no.

Pueden saber tu nombre, conocer información tuya e incluso conseguir que en pantalla aparezca un identificador que parece legítimo.

Desde entonces tengo una regla muy simple: si alguien me llama diciendo que es del banco y necesita que haga algo urgente, cuelgo y llamo yo al número oficial.

Si de verdad es urgente, seguirá siendo urgente 30 segundos después.

Tu banco puede necesitar verificarte. Lo que nunca necesita es que entres en pánico.

I sat in the front seat of a Micra taxi in Ibadan yesterday.
A few minutes later, the driver stopped.
Another passenger opened the door and squeezed into the same seat beside me.
Neither of us complained.
We simply adjusted ourselves until we somehow fit.

That's why we can joke through power outages, inflation, overcrowded buses, and impossible traffic.
The human mind is remarkably good at adapting.
Sometimes that's resilience.
Sometimes it's the reason we stop questioning things that should have changed long ago.

What fascinated me wasn't the discomfort.
It was how quickly we accepted it.
Psychology calls this adaptation.
The longer we're exposed to an environment, the more "normal" it begins to feel even when it's objectively uncomfortable.
