#Meditation cannot be taught or even described.
The most we do is prepare ourselves for meditation, approach it, point to it; but these things require a kind of effort and meditation itself must be absolutely effortless.
[BTW, meditation must also be absolutely purposeless.]

We humans are unique in our ability to be confused.
The cause: Imagination plus emotions.
The consequence: Bad decisions- personal, social, cultural, political, economic, environmental ...
The antidote: Quiet contemplation and meditation, peaceful discussion, kindly action.

FAITH, is always blind.
Where there is no sure knowledge, and we are ignorant, we can apply reason and discovery, allow our ignorance, or cover our ignorance with fundamentalism and faith.
Faith CAN ease insecurity but we’ll still be ignorant and ought to acknowledge this.
Only a few can devote entire lives to spiritual practice. The rest must create a balance between the active~ family, job, service, recreation, learning, community~ and quietude.
Putting meditation time first can elevate everything else into its own kind of spiritual practice.
Being engrossed in our everyday affairs blinds us. Sure, we need to take care of whatever needs our attention; but we also need to take a break.
How different our world might be if we all took time each day to remember our true selves and how connected we all are.

I’m a big fan of the old saws: “Know thyself.”, “Be here now.”, etc.
I’m especially drawn to the ones that remind me what I seek can be found within. The quest ends at home.
My aging helps me finally, really, get it. In a word, THIS is it!

Can there be any value in writing or talking about meditation? What happens in meditation, and even how one arrives there, cannot be expressed.
What can be said is that it is worth figuring out for oneself

Every living thing that is inflexible and cannot adapt to change will die.
This, of course, applies to rigid old social, economic, and political systems just as much as it applies to individuals with rigid bodies and minds.

#Meditation is like a universal solvent in which even our worst emotions can dissolve and be washed away.
#Nirvana is when that solvent has been allowed to work (sincere practice required) and all fears and desires have disappeared.

For better or worse, I’m a straight, white, able-bodied, well-educated, prosperous, native-born male.
Each of these is another layer of privilege, protection and power and each can blind me to the struggles of others.
My practice MUST include service and kindness.
