I see one of the actual problems could be lack of dialogue. Dialogue needs some background, effort to think through and frame our thoughts. Like everything has gone easy and like anything that takes effort is looked down upon (of course, not consciously), we take the fastest path without hurdles. And that’s why tagging anyone in a derogatory shorter form becomes easy. I believe, even the so called staunch followers or blindeyed hysterical people of certain ideologies have some rationale left with them, but they hold themselves delving through that for the fear of disappointment or revelation that they cannot stand.

Just like when some nations cut diplomatic ties, they tend to go farther than they were with time. I mean about US, Iran, NK etc. the tensions cannot comedown until the dialogue returns. Dialogue enables exchange of ideas or fill gaps of misunderstandings. Of course there will be lack of trust of fear of influence or anything.. but not every trivial thing will end up at nuclear arms level.
Individuals must involve in dialogue. Not loud debates of some tv channels. Debate on topics, listen and counter. It takes time and effort, but can make people think in different directions.
Even at highest political level, there used to be some statemen that involved in dialogue. Perhaps, these days, they fear they might be treated as covert if they come to middle and open a dialogue when their tribes have moved to extreme sides.
