Suzerainty. When a powerful country controls the foreign policy of a weaker country, while allowing the weaker country to govern itself internally.
Should get a good workout in the current state of world affairs.

UBC's @pmcondon2 has 3 suggestions to address the housing crisis, and it all ties back to land.
1. Stop using tax dollars to boost demand even more.
2. Capture land value to benefit the public, not speculators.
3. Use that value to build non-market housing.
The solutions to Australia’s housing affordability crisis are simple: increase supply and lower demand by ending the incentives that treat housing as an investment vehicle rather than someone’s home. If only we had a government brave enough to enact them.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Executive Director and founder, Helen Darbishire.
Helen’s visionary leadership, compassion, and dedication have left a lasting impact on all of us, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Today Europe has lost a great European, not a stateswoman, but an activist whose impact will remain unmatched by most political leaders.
Helen Darbishire has been one of the staunchest, most charismatic, and most effective civil society leaders in Europe, whose actions have been instrumental in making the EU more transparent and accountable to the benefit of the many, not the few.
She set up her influential organization - @Access_Info Europe—in Madrid, not Brussels, to keep herself and her organization closer to real Europe than to the bubble.
Access_Info was created and de facto acted as the pan-EU movement for civil society organizations working on the Right to Information (RTI).
I stumbled upon Helen in 2010, quickly became friends and teamed up on so many battles for greater access to the EU, from setting up the EU Transparency Register in 2012, making the EU join the Open Government Partnership, making the judicial appointments to the CJEU more transparent, setting up and getting access to beneficial ownership registers, improved access to EU document…. my greatest honour was when Helen asked me to be her ‘second’ when she became member of OGP civil society steering committee.
Helen will be missed, but her legacy will keep us going.

@MaryKostakidis It would be interesting to see public polling on the different facets of this issue - including attempts to shut down freedom of expression - across different countries.
No doubt the political parties have had it done even if they’re keeping mum.
