Sugma went on a 4-week losing streak in May and June. A somewhat strong finish snuck them into the playoffs at the 7 seed with a .500 record. They are facing the 2 seed, a squad led by Shohei Ohtani called “The Irishmen”. Throughout the regular season, Sugma went 0-2 against them, losing by a combined score of 428 to 679. After being written off in June, and clinging on to life in July, they are pulling off the unthinkable in August. A rotation riddled with injuries to Shota Imanaga (57 pts) and George Kirby (47 pts) and a lineup strung together from trade acquisitions like Colson Montgomery (20 pts) and Kyle Stowers has totally decimated the efforts of Shohei Ohtani (60 pts) and Sonny Gray (58 pts). Chase owns a 140 point lead on a team carrying a 9-week winning streak into the playoffs. This… this is your Cinderella story.
