"No serious Nigerian should opposed State Police. If the Federal Government can have federal police, nothing should stop a state government and even local government to have their own police." — Femi Falana, SAN 2024
This same man is now out in 2026 to criticize the implementation of the same state police 😎😳
State Police means the governors/states are mostly in charge of policing in their states. If the FG needs to abuse policing during election, does it not make more sense for it to continue to be centralized under FG’s control?
If you’re President and the current constitution already gives you full power to control police, will you decide to decentralize it because you want to abuse it?
Is it easier to abuse by the FG when centralized or decentralized?
😏
The first time President Tinubu ever talked about State police was in 1999 when he was Governor of Lagos.
In this clip from 2025 he says "I was bragging to them [British and American stakeholders] that definitely we will pass State police to improve security. They asked me if I'm confident and I said yes!"
27 years later state police is officially a thing in Nigeria.
I was speaking to a friend of mine who told me her brother got into University of Abuja in 2023 and the boy is in his final year now.
I argued and we had to call the boy on the phone and he confirmed it.
It was difficult to imagine an uninterrupted academic in Nigeria but this government has achieved that.
Bola Tinubu is slowly but surely laying the foundation for a prosperous Nigeria.
Governor Sule asks Peter Obi why he didn't resign as Anambra governor when the security situation was catastrophic, when the citizens could not come home for Christmas.
Our youths should stay informed and explore opportunities in Nigeria's evolving economy. Reforms are showing macro gains.

*On State Police*
“No, the President has not dropped the ball. He has pressed the switch.
As journalists, we also record history. The debate on state police first became prominent about 19 years ago. Records show that President Bola Tinubu was one of the earliest and strongest advocates for state police. Over the years, the argument was weakened by fears that governors might turn state police into personal militias. However, when one looks at the facts, the rising insecurity and the shortage of police officers in critical areas across the states have made the case for state police much stronger.
The President could have stayed silent. Instead, as he did with the tax reforms, he made his position clear in public and stood by it firmly in a bold and unexpected way.
It is unusual for a sitting President to speak so directly on this matter. I was present when he addressed a group of leaders in the federal chamber. He stated that Nigeria needs state police and that he would ask the National Assembly to take the matter forward, because it is the right thing to do.”
Listen and hear a new update on President Tinubu’s third legacy project. This is another bold initiative aimed at shaping a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
The Constitution says the primary role of the GOVERNMENT is to safeguard the welfare and security of the people. What makes up the Government is not only Federal Government but also the States. So what exactly is wrong in putting internal security within the State to the State?
Many Governors have used the excuses of not having power over security of their states as an excuse for the crisis and insecurity in their states. They argue that the FG is too powerful and power needs to be decentralized. Now that the power is being decentralized, you people have problem with it again?
You just hate this country for nothing
President Tinubu, the then Governor of Lagos State, on the 6th of July 1999, just two month after becoming Governor like other 35 Governors in Nigeria launched the Rapid Response Squad @rrslagos767 in Lagos...
If he had his way, that was the day he would have implemented the #StatePolice
What will a rogue governor do? Do you think a rogue governor will just wake up one morning and call the police from the same environment and instruct them to go and start killing people? It’s not going to work that way.
- Segun Sowunmi on fear of Governors abusing state police
BREAKING NEWS: The Federal Government has signalled plans to review the national minimum wage, stating that the current N70,000 benchmark no longer reflects prevailing economic realities.
“David Mark was Senate President for 8 years uninterrupted but he couldn’t facilitate the construction of road to his village from Makurdi to Akwanga, he was always traveling with helicopter. How many people can afford helicopter? But today, the government of Tinubu has constructed the road under 3 years. If someone is doing well, even if the person is your enemy, tell him he’s doing well….”
How can you consistently call for security to be localized and then the moment that is done, you find a way to disagree with what you insisted was solution?
