Only a revolution will fix this.

A president that leads for 4 or 8 years and then bounces will only do patch patch job.

That's because the cabals in charge of the minining industry alongside their puppet masters can hibernate for a few years if the heat gets too much, and simple resurface after the president is gone.

You need a total upheaval of Nigerian society to produce the institutions and collective behavior that makes this tragedy/travesty unthinkable.

The armed forces would need to be stripped and rebuilt on a new doctrine.

The institutions that control the civil service and legislature completely overhauled and oriented toward the ruthless advancement of collective Nigerian interest.

... And so forth.

A president cannot fix this.

Unless they go the way of Putin and simply refuse to leave to give their reform time to harden into institutional and societal memory.
