@EiratheIntern@KirillChernysh6@rowanfornow i actually completely agree with this but from a vegan perspective. it’s not only about biting my tongue and living a happy social life (although that is part of it!). my actions at 1% societal acceptance *should* be different compared to my actions at 90%.
@morallawwithin our north star has gotta be whether our actions actually advance the cause. and i'm finding that a lot of vegans get caught up in doing what is emotionally satisfying vs. what is effective. tbf i did this too! it's hard work to come to terms with your emotions.
@elliotaesthetic@ADHDisfake@invincibat it’s not just capitalism that is the problem. the soviet union, maoist china, and east germany all had factory farms. this is a result of denying basic rights to animals. society needs to give more moral consideration to animals regardless of the economic system.
@Morphenius i'd read this thread before and intellectually understood it. but now i'm beginning to relate to it experientially! it's super interesting to suddenly notice how much effort i've been putting in this whole time.
curious to know if you have any updates on your experience
@IsaacKing314@Trotztd Somewhere in between? There are a few critical supplements (i.e. B12, vitamin D, and omega 3s) but otherwise I would advocate for a “normal” vegan diet that has a mix of whole foods and some processed items.
@Trotztd@IsaacKing314 I also don’t think “care” is a useful word when cognitive dissonance is a major factor. IMO it’s more that taste preference and convenience outweigh switching costs for most people. When that changes significantly you’ll see more people making plant-based decisions.
@Trotztd@IsaacKing314 The health story is more complicated and generally leans towards veganism being more healthy when you look into it (although there is a tradeoff of different risks). But clearly this isn’t widely known as you’ve just demonstrated.
@the_wilderless@nosilverv i’m actually sympathetic to this perspective (i read your article as well) but just can’t square it with factory farming - genuinely curious how that fits into your worldview
@devanshmehta@melissa seems like there are unequivocally better parenting techniques for a lot of things but that there are also clear incompatibilities that you have to accept the tradeoffs for (e.g. tiger parenting can get you a virtuoso violinist but will prevent skills learned through free play)
@CurtTigges@nosilverv cold showers are just a way to learn a more generally applicable technique that i have personally found invaluable for stuff like resolving arguments, dealing with discomfort, and letting go of tension
