Another InkTober completed! Managed to complete 23 drawings this year.
Art supplies: Mechanical pencil, Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and Staedtler pigmentArts pens (pretty sure I used all 36 colors!).
Used combined references or my own photos.
InkTober #31 - Rainbow Lorikeet
The perfect halloween bird. We saw these amazingly colorful parrots all over Australia. They were a bit shy, but we did get some close looks at them feeding on flower nectar a few times.

InkTober #30 - Resplendent Quetzal
If ever there was a bird that looked like a mythical creature, the Quetzal might be it. No wonder they were so important in Maya and Aztec cultures, featuring prominently in myth and legend.

InkTober #24 - Regal Sunbird
Sunbirds are the old world equivalent of our hummingbirds. Most are small nectar eaters and are often brightly colored. We have seen a few on our travels, but not this stunning Regal Sunbird.

InkTober #23 - Lilac-breasted Roller
Rollers and Bee-eaters are part of the same order of birds (incidentally so are Kingfishers) and have similar looks and behaviours.

InkTober #22 - Purple Gallinule
Not totally happy with this one, but done is done. One of these crazy colorful birds showed up in NS last year and posed beautifully for photos on the side of the road.

InkTober #21 - Araripe Manakin female
A quick, little drawing tonight. In many bird species the female is less colorful than the male, as is the case with the Araripe Manakin.

InkTober #20 - Flame Bowerbird
This colorful bird builds a structure out of sticks and twigs on the forest floor and uses it as a frame through which the female views his display. You too can watch this fabulous bird dance on Youtube.

InkTober #18 - Many-colored Rush Tyrant
An adorable little South American bird that nests in marshes and reedbeds. This bird has bright red feathers on the top of its head that are usually hidden.

InkTober #17 - Andean Cock-of-the-rock
A quick one tonight. These showy birds do elaborate displays to show off their plumage and impress females.

InkTober #16 - Araripe Manakin
Maybe not the most colorful, but oh so huggable! When I came across this critically endangered snow puff I just had to draw him. Recently described in the 90s, this bird has a very restricted breeding range in Brazil.

InkTober #15 - Banded Cotinga
This Brazilian bird is critically endangered, with less than 1000 individuals remaining. The population has suffered steep declines due to deforestation and habitat fragmentation along the Atlantic coast.

InkTober #14 - Splendid Fairywren
Fairywrens are tiny, quick, adorable little birds and we saw them a lot in Australia. I finally used white-out that I bought for art years ago in an attempt to show the shine on his feathers.

InkTober #13 - Black-backed Dwarf Kingfisher
A crazy colorful bird that I had trouble representing with my markers (and photo didn't do it any favours either). There are a number of colorful kingfishers, often showing vibrant blues.

InkTober #11 - Mulga Parrot
Australia has numerous colorful parrots and they are all prettier in person than any photo or illustration can show. My attempt to show the feather shine resulted in an interesting effect, but it still isn't quite right.

InkTober #10 - Eastern Yellow Robin
This is one of the Australian Robins we actually saw in 2022. We did the Maits Rest Rainforest Walk and I searched for this bird the whole walk and found it in the parking lot when we got back!

InkTober #9 - Red-necked Tanager
Some of these tropical tanagers are unbelievably colorful. I haven't figured out how to show the shine and brilliance of their feathers with these markers yet.

InkTober #8 - Wompoo Fruit-Dove
We saw this tropical dove in the Australian rainforest. Its bright colors are often hard to see in the dim woods and it likes to hide and sing a low, grunting song.
