The state model in Polygon Miden gives users the option to store their account and note data in two ways:
1. Public and on-chain
2. Private and off-chain

These options create different degrees of privacy.

With public storage, the data is on-chain and visible to everyone.

Off-chain storage ensures the network only knows a commitment to the real data, with users storing the data elsewhere.

For certain transactions, users also have the option to choose who generates the ZK proof, either:
1. Locally (client-side proofs)
2. Using the network

Taken together, these two sets of options provide users of Miden four transaction modes.

Off-chain storage + client-side proofs enhance privacy and drastically increase scalability because they reduce the network’s burden on computation and storage. In this mode, transaction data is visible only to the direct participants.

Using relay accounts, for example, could even obscure the sender of an asset from the receiver. This makes absolute privacy possible on Polygon Miden.

Claiming absolute privacy raises a question: Can an experienced observer gain some information by monitoring the network's state and its changes?
