You are confusing the first three hundred years of early Christianity with the last 1700 years of Christendom. Yes, the early followers of Jesus were persecuted. However, the moment the Roman Empire adopted Christianity under Constantine and later made it the only legal religion with the Edict of Thessalonica in 380 AD, the persecuted became the violent persecutors. Pagans were slaughtered and their temples destroyed.

Have you read about Charlemagne? During the Saxon Wars in the 8th century, he issued a law called the “Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae.” His official state policy was baptism or death. I know you don’t know this Barbie 😂. He beheaded thousands of Saxons in a single day at the Massacre of Verden for refusing to convert.

When the Conquistadors arrived in the Americas, they read a document called the “Requerimiento” to the native populations. It demanded they submit to the Church and the Spanish Crown, or face war, enslavement, and death. Was that people repenting and turning to Jesus? However, historical records show these regions remained majority Christian and Zoroastrian for almost 300 years after the initial Islamic conquest. They converted gradually over centuries under the Dhimmi system because they were protected and allowed to keep their faith.

Take a look at the largest Muslim populations today. Indonesia, Malaysia, and massive regions of East and West Africa. No Muslim army ever marched there. Islam spread entirely through trade routes, scholars, and the moral character of Muslim merchants.

Do not take my word for it. Sir Thomas Arnold, a non-Muslim historian in his book “The Preaching of Islam” thoroughly dismantled this sword myth. In fact, the famous British historian De Lacy O'Leary wrote in his book “Islam at the Crossroads” and stated expressly that: the myth of the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.

A sister once approached me, asking for help in finding a spouse. By the grace of Allah, I found a practicing, God-conscious Muslim brother and introduced them. Shortly after, the sister, out of desperation and advancing age, went to an “Alfa” for a so-called compatibility check, something we have consistently warned against. She was told they were “incompatible.”

The moment the brother informed me of this, I knew the matter would not end well. Anyone who submits a major life decision to soothsaying, especially marriage, has already placed the foundation on sand. I advised the brother to disengage and move on quickly. Not long after, the sister herself also moved on. That chapter closed exactly as expected.

For the umpteenth time, our people must hear the voice of wisdom clearly and without ambiguity: soothsaying, divination, and fortune-telling are ḥarām, no matter the language used, the outfit worn, or the religious titles claimed.

Allah says:

“Say: None in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen except Allah.”
(Qur’ān 27:65).

And He says:

“Indeed, Allah alone has knowledge of the Hour; He sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in which land it will die.” (Qur’ān 31:34)

The Messenger of Allah (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam) was even more explicit:

“Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

And in another narration:

“Whoever goes to a soothsayer or fortune-teller and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muḥammad (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam)” (Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd)

This matter is not trivial. Consulting such people, regardless of whether they wear turbans, quote verses, or operate under Islamic labels, is a path of shirk and a remnant of pre-Islamic ignorance. It is a red flag in marriage, character, and creed.

If compatibility must be assessed, and Islam does not oppose due diligence, then do it the halal way:

Pray Ṣalāt al-Istikhārah, as taught by the Prophet (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam)

Meet openly and honestly (within Islamic boundaries)

Ask serious questions about dīn, character, worldview, responsibilities, and expectations

Consult families, elders, and trusted counselors

Where necessary, seek medical and psychological counsel

Islam teaches tawakkul, not superstition. The future is in Allah’s Hands alone, not in the tongues of sorcerers.

Desperation must never push a believer into disobedience. Marriage built on fear of the future rather than trust in Allah is unlikely to bring sakīnah.

May Allah grant our community clarity, protect us from hidden shirk, and guide our choices with īmān, wisdom, and sound judgment. Āmīn.
