Sunnyvale DPS will operate a safety and sobriety checkpoint on April 11, 2026. Vehicles traveling NB on Mathilda Av between San Aleso Av & W Maude Av will be randomly stopped & drivers will be evaluated to determine their sobriety. The checkpoint is will operate from 8p until 3a.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: The traffic signals at Fremont and Bernardo Ave are not working properly and are on 4-way-flash. CalTrans is estimating it will be repaired sometime on Monday. We appreciate everyone’s patience and please drive safely.

We are aware of seismic activity in the San Ramon area this morning.
As a reminder, the USGS recommends that during an earthquake to Drop to your hands and knees, take Cover under a sturdy desk or table and Hold On until the shaking stops.
We will continue to monitor.

UPDATE: All residents, with the exception of those in the affected structure, are being allowed to return home. The shelter in place at the school has been lifted. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

UPDATE: The school was not evacuated. They were asked to shelter in place. The gas leak has been mitigated by PG&E. We hope to allow the affected residents to return to their homes soon.

Congratulations are extended to Sunnyvale DPS Lieutenant Steve Gorshe, who just completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SBSLI) program! Lt. Gorshe was a graduate of class #557, which consisted of 192 hours of training over an 8-month span.
