A scan has confirmed that Kieran Shanks won’t need surgery on the medial ligament injury he suffered in last Saturday’s home win against Arbroath. But he will be out of action for between six and eight weeks.

AYR UNITED'S most iconic figure - and his famous XI - have been immortalised in a new t-shirt.

Ally MacLeod's legendary team of '69, which downed Rangers in Somerset Park's greatest ever game - are living on in the new merchandise.

To fans of a certain vintage, the team of Stewart, Malone, Murphy, Fleming, Quinn, Mitchell, Young, Ferguson, Ingram, McCulloch and Rough is a line-up etched into folklore.

Now supporters young and old can sport the iconic names - along with a famous image of the great gaffer leaping from his Somerset dugout.

Ally's daughter Gail (pictured below) told the Ayrshire Post: "Anything with my dad's name on it is fantastic. As my mum always says...it's keeps his memory alive. I might even have to buy her one to wear!

"There's been a couple of t-shirts over the years with caricatures, but personally I love this photo of him jumping from the dugout. They couldn't have picked a better image.

"That team was before the time of most fans...my own generation growing up was the late '70s. But so many people know it as the iconic team they can rhyme off the tongue.

"Most of our current fans didn't know my dad and never met him. Even the chairman said to me he never met him, but like so many others he idolised him and we have the Ally MacLeod Suite in hospitality and his memorial at the side of the Hub - and now a t-shirt.

"Here's hoping it's a lucky omen for the season ahead!"

EVERGREEN Jamie Murphy says his eye for a goal is as sharp as ever - after achieving an incredible record.

The veteran became the first Scottish player to score in 20 consecutive seasons when hitting the target against Alloa last week.

A classy career, which has taken in stops such as Motherwell, Sheffield Utd, Brighton, Rangers and Hibs, has always been underpinned by Murphy's constant contribution in front of goal.

And not even a ruptured ACL - sustained at Rugby Park in August 2018 whilst playing for Rangers - could disrupt his record.

Murphy told the Ayrshire Post: "My dad told me about it on the way home from the [Alloa] game and our sports scientist has since had a look at the records...we don't think there's another Scottish player to have done it.

"So it's pretty cool. I've been lucky enough to do this for a long time. I was a striker growing up, so goals have always been part of my game and thankfully I've managed to contribute down all the years of my career.

"The year I did my cruciate, I scored right at the start of that season in the first European game [for Rangers]. So I still managed to get that year in.

"And my first ever goal came in the very last game of the season when I was 18 - so that's helped add another year to the total.

"It was nice to get up and running so early in this new season. I still set the same targets of being involved as much as I can and playing as big a part as possible for the team."

Murphy is also increasing his input on the coaching side of things this season, offering added support to new boss Gary Naysmith and assistant Brown Ferguson.

He said: "It's been good. The new manager has come in with Brown and they're both really organised and detailed in what they do. They're on top of things.

"The new signings have also settled in really well and we've made a good start, but there's a long way to go."
