Why do most """positive""" Supergirl reviews sound like they are desperately trying to look some positive aspects in a movie they clearly didn't think was good?
This reads more constructive criticism I'd give a friend and not professional movie criticism LMAO
Supergirl is just okay. Craig Gillespie, who's made several things I've liked, doesn't really mesh with the material, and not enough of the action scenes fully come to life. On the other hand, there's some good character moments, flashbacks included, and Milly Alcock is great.
I’m sorry, but I rarely report on anything but Disney, but we were subjected to watching the longest most painful trailer for Supergirl before Toy Story 5 - and I would like that time of my life back. It looks like possibly the worst movie ever made. Heinous. Prove me wrong, but every aspect of Supergirl looks awful. #supergirl
Batman V Superman introduces Wonder Woman to the world ---> a year later: $820M box office.
Superman introduces Supergirl to the world ---> a year later: "Hey guys the partnership with KFC will help the movie breakeven"
#MillyAlcock says her version of Supergirl is “objectively” stronger than #DavidCorenswet’s Superman, but in a one-on-one fight, he’d just “let [her] win.”
This is so funny because that's exactly the response this puff piece wants but I didn't think anyone will fall for it. People are desperate.
The brand partnerships don't bring a single dollar to WB. Brand and the studio feed off each other for marketing. That's it.
There's a big aspect of this thing that can't be overlooked IMO: how are these brands going to react when, after investing a collective $100M on Supergirl, realise how unprofitable (and therefore, a bad marketing investment) this was?
SUPERGIRL reminded me of a time when a comic book movie didn’t need to be the next big thing, but simply tell a compelling story with heart. Its action may be too anonymous, but it has such a sincere approach to its world, characters, and tone that kept me invested. Solid stuff!
Esto no es BVS o la liga de la justicia, que reinicien el DCU despues de supergirl seria como que hubieran despedido a kevin feige solo porque el increible hulk fracaso
Funny details: it was yet again Deadline, and the same writer, who, 3 weeks ago, published the mathematically puzzling breakeven point of Supergirl (even before announcing the promo partners).
Very interesting timing!
So let me be clear: Deadline "forgot" that MoS earned $170M with promo partners when calculating its profits in 2015, they "forgot" when arguing Superman V MoS profits and now they're "forgetting" the same thing once again to prop up Supergirl?
What happened to journalism?
I genuinely wish all people who want to enjoy this movie to love it, and I hope it is better than what I fear it might be.
..but this whole "let's give the new DC universe a vote of confidence"? Nah.
If this project fails it's 95% because DC Studios are doing a terrible job.
