Thank you #Ireland team for setting a moral example with your protest against #Israel last Sunday.
I think Israel should follow suit and also wear black armbands for the return match this Sunday, in remembrance of all the victims of Irish violence down the years. It is the correct and moral thing to do in a football match.
All our players should remember:
• More than 700 innocent civilians murdered in the Irish War of Independence
• 919 civilians murdered in political violence in Ireland around the same time
• 371 civilians murdered in the Irish Civil War
• 25+ indigenous Luba people murdered by Irish forces in Congo in 1960 — a #genocide by anyone's standards
Ireland's conflicts matter deeply to Israelis — they are more important than all the other problems we have to deal with at home, and Israel's footballers are there to remember the innocent victims on all sides. We definitely know what we're on about.
@zoharm7 Micki Zohar @ISRAELFA, can you please get black armbands to the team and make it happen?
What do people think of this idea? Please comment and let me know!

What might be referred to as an 'own goal' from our national broadcaster?
Despite no RTÉ studio pundits, no advertisements and full reliance on Uefa’s global coverage, RTÉ reported an average of 573,000 viewers with an additional 233,683 watching on RTÉ Player - markedly higher than Ireland’s match against Kosovo last Thursday.

@DanMulhall 2 years, all over the UK, Irl; I reckon we will embrace FSD after the rest of EU. There will be protests to stop it because of Musk derangement combined with paddistinianism.
@Brenbyrn2 The charity I work for has just opened up a school for 1,000 children in Gaza City. I’m just back from the West Bank, where we support thousands of families. Let me know how much you’d like to donate - tweets are free, real support costs money.
From Irish Independent online Sunday evening just before the Israel v Ireland match started in Debrecen. Been reflecting on this somewhat ageist reference. Didn’t see anywhere else reports of the age of others present or who walked into the press box. Is this ageist or a tribute to my vim & vigour.? Total mystery.
Maybe its a good idea in future that all journos reference their age at the start of their reports so their content can be assessed against their life experience. Who knows? Open to debate. Of course, the response of some to this post entirely predictable! Enjoy.
@aldi_bourdain Same boat, I find it very difficult as an only child but at the same time, am feeling really privileged and fulfilled caring for my extraordinary parents in their late 80's.
In the bar at the hotel in Debrecen, I asked the group at the next table if they were going to the match. Said they were. Asked if I was. I said I can’t get tickets. Then the man I was talking to says I’ll get you tickets. He was the Israeli FA president.
But it doesn’t end there. When I got to the stadium they wouldn’t let me in bec i’m Irish. I texted the same man who had texted me the tickets and he says wait I’ll send you a VIP pass. At the VIP entrance they didn’t ask for passports.
