At smaller scales, yes, which were manageable. Within one or two hours, a landslide gets cleared, or you're stuck for half an hour, maybe for some days, and then you move again. But never at this scale. This is something very new for all of us. Right now, we are in the process of reaching out to all the families... It's very shocking for the families, but we are still waiting for an official confirmation. We cannot jump to a conclusion unless we know for sure what has actually happened to these people. Nevertheless, we are reaching out to the families. We are telling them whatever we know at the moment, and we are updating them as and when we get any information. Hopefully, by tomorrow, we should have some more information."

#WATCH | Nepal: On several pilgrims and volunteers of Isha Foundation's Sacred Walks (Kailash Mansarovar Yatra) missing or stranded in Nepal amid the flood situation, Maa Gambhiri, Coordinator at Isha Sacred Walks, says, "This was a very unexpected situation that happened because the group was just returning to Kathmandu and they were at the China Immigration Center. When we last spoke to them at 9:05 am, the group leader, Praveen, told us that they had just reached the immigration center and that they were going to start the immigration process. Within 10 minutes, when we tried to contact them again, they were not reachable. This entire tragedy happened within those 10 minutes. We lost touch with the entire group because the entire communication system was down... we've been waiting for an update. On the Nepal side, all the communication systems were down. I think they tried sending some helicopters to get some information. The town on the Nepal side, where 3 of our volunteers were stationed, was completely washed away. A total of 80 people were affected by this. We are still hoping that we will have some information soon from the Chinese authorities, hopefully by tomorrow morning. We are hoping against hope that we will get to hear some good news on this."

Speaking about 77 pilgrims that left stranded amid the flood situation in Nepal, she says, "They were from the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, various countries in Europe, and the UK. We also had people from some of the Asian countries. We had participants from 19 countries. A lot of them were of Indian origin... We have contacted all 19 embassies in India and Nepal. We are in touch with them. They are also looking at how to support us and get some information. But because the tragedy happened in a very remote area and on a very massive scale, I think information is very slow to come by..."

#WATCH | Nepal: When asked about the intensity of the flood situation in Nepal, Maa Gambhiri, Coordinator at Isha Sacred Walks, says, "They (authorities) are also trying to support us. They've said they'll provide us with information as soon as possible, as we have a lot of groups here right now. They've asked all groups to stay where they are for now, and by this evening, they've assured us they'll provide us with all the information about our group movement, including the routes for groups that need to leave and return to Nepal. They've said they might get some information regarding on-the-ground information by tomorrow morning, so we're waiting for that."

She adds, "Sadhguru is with us. As soon as he received the information, he tried to go directly there, even though the government authorities said that it would not be appropriate to go there at this time, and they did not give permission... But from that evening until now, as we've been talking, he's been fully active. Under his guidance, we've contacted 19 embassies in India, all of their embassies in Nepal. We're also in talks with various agencies and administrations in India, Nepal, and several departments in China. So, everything is happening under Sadhguru's guidance... All three countries are trying. Nepal is doing its part, and India has also offered to provide whatever assistance is needed and is actively looking into it. As far as we know, we've spoken to them, and China is doing its best. We're trying our best..."

All communication lines are down, and we cannot reach anyone on the ground. We are just waiting to hear back from the authorities with some information... hoping to find out something by tomorrow morning."

She adds, "We have 21 groups traveling to Kailash Mansarovar this year. Many have already successfully completed their pilgrimage, while others are currently en route, and some are just about to start. This specific group had already finished their journey and was heading back to Kathmandu this morning after clearing Tibetan immigration. There were 77 pilgrims who had reached the immigration center. The group leader was named Praveen. One of our team members spoke to him at 9:05 AM. However, when we tried to contact him again ten minutes later, we couldn't get through to him or anyone else. It seems the incident occurred within those ten minutes. We had no prior information or inkling that anything was amiss; everything seemed completely normal during our conversation, and this happened quite suddenly... There was no warning, no indication; nothing was communicated. This accident happened suddenly..."

But what we witnessed today is something we have never seen before. It is beyond imagination what happened today."

When asked about a breakdown of the current batch that was left stranded in Nepal amid the flood situation, she says, "There were more than 50 women, and the rest were men... There were people from 19 countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, the UK, and Asian countries... This was our group of foreign nationals... 53 people of Indian origin were in this group."

All of us, including the volunteers and support teams are deeply anguished and are doing our utmost to assist in the rescue. There has been no official information on the whereabouts of any of the people who were at the immigration office. A few of you were very quick to run headlines claiming that Sadhguru’s advice made actor Rajesh Kumar quit acting, take up farming and eventually land in ₹2 crore debt.

Great headline. Great for clicks.

Except there’s a small problem; Rajesh Kumar himself has now come out and explained what actually happened.

Yes, he was inspired by Sadhguru’s views on agriculture. Yes, those conversations influenced him. But Rajesh has clearly said that taking up farming was his own decision. He wanted to experience farming himself and understand what farmers actually go through.

And the debt didn’t magically appear because someone told him to farm. There were floods, COVID, crop and plantation losses, and problems with finding groundwater.

There’s another detail that conveniently disappeared from some of these headlines: Rajesh has already cleared most of that debt. He had said earlier this year that only around 10–15% was left.

So why reduce the entire story to “Sadhguru’s advice = ₹2 crore debt”?

That isn’t reporting. That’s taking a complicated story, stripping away the context and turning it into a convenient headline.

Nobody is asking you to praise Sadhguru. Criticise him if you want. Ask tough questions. That’s what journalism is supposed to do.

But when the person at the centre of your story comes forward and says, essentially, “That’s not the whole story,” you have a responsibility to report that too.

So here’s a simple question:

Will you now publish the clarification with the same prominence as the original story? And will you correct the misleading impression and apologise to your readers, and to @SadhguruJV ?

Or was the truth only interesting until it stopped being useful for the headline?

Journalism is about telling the story. Not manufacturing one.
