Japanese illustrator Juko Matsuda, also known as Matsuda HI, has announced a manga titled Shahed Hunter, about a Ukrainian Yak-52 crew intercepting Russian Shahed-type attack drones.

According to the author, the story focuses on outdated propeller aircraft hunting massive drones that attack Ukraine every day. He also shared the cover and several pages of the manga on social media.

The official presentation of Shahed Hunter is scheduled for June 7, 2026, at the COMITIA 156 independent comics festival at Tokyo Big Sight.

Matsuda has previously addressed the war in Ukraine: he earlier created The Ghost of Kyiv, a manga about the “Ghost of Kyiv” legend. Ukrainian Yak-52 crews do in fact use these aircraft to counter Russian UAVs.
