#ONStorm#ONwx 🧊 FORECAST PREVIEW: Freezing Rain Risk Shifts to Eastern Ontario on Wednesday
📅 Tuesday, January 23 - Thursday, January 25, 2024
———
We are closely tracking the potential for an extended period of freezing rain in parts of Eastern Ontario, beginning Wednesday afternoon. This comes in addition to the expected lingering freezing rain northwest of the Greater Toronto Area, continuing overnight into early Wednesday morning.
As we wait for the latest model data to refine our forecast for this event, we want to give you an insider's look at the current model projections. Keep in mind, that this is just one model's prediction, and it's common for these models to overestimate actual totals.
According to the American model, light icing is anticipated over the Woodstock, Kitchener, Guelph, and Orangeville areas this evening and overnight. Ice accumulation is expected to be less than 1mm, although the Dundalk Highlands might see slightly more, potentially exceeding 2mm.
A more significant round of freezing rain is forecast to spread across Eastern Ontario, with a broad area potentially experiencing 2-6mm of ice accumulation. This includes the Ottawa Valley, extending to Peterborough. Light icing is also a possibility around Lake Simcoe and into Central Ontario. Areas south of Ottawa, such as Cornwall, Brockville, and Smiths Falls, might see localized ice accumulations exceeding 6mm.
Other models suggest the freezing rain could shift further south, impacting the Kingston area more severely and sparing Ottawa to some extent. That's why we're waiting for this evening's data to provide a clearer picture.
The precipitation is set to start in the southern part of Eastern Ontario by Wednesday afternoon, gradually moving northward into the evening. The most severe impacts are expected around midnight. Freezing rain is likely to persist overnight into Thursday morning but should start to ease by sunrise on Thursday.
More details soon! Including our 'ice day' forecast for tomorrow.

@AshleyFoxRPN@Sflecce Would be totally surprised if you do. I sent 3 emails on the same topic, serious personal issue, to him. My MPP even told him he needed to respond, and NADA. The OPP responded several times. I did finally get a notification that the email had been deleted without being read.
Flu season is well underway in Australia.
This is a decent (but imperfect) proxy of what we can expect in the Northern hemisphere several months from now.
@RebekahWriter Amazing! Did u see security detail!
I remember seeing Justin Beiber. It is something how we can get completely mesmerized with stars, political figures. This one for your family history book. What a great day you had!!
My patient before #Covid;
walked 10,000 steps daily,
biked 20 miles on weekends.
My patient after #LongCovid uses a cane to pick up mail from the front porch.
#Covid is still here
#LongCovid is still raging.
Serious question: who do I talk to about styrofoam-packaged corn and ending this? Corn comes in its own beautiful compostable package. Already pretty efficient.
Why oh why do volunteers in hospitals feel the need to inform me that masks aren't required as I walk in with my 93yo MIL who has cancer, is bald as a cue ball and has a walker! It's obvious that she is NOT WELL & we're wearing N95s for a freaking reason. I was slightly unkind.
Health care is in crisis across the country, and here in Ontario @Fordnation has billions of dollars in reserve from underspending on care. What will it take for Ford to invest in our strained public health care system before it collapses!? #onpoli

A $ 1,000,000 WRDSB boardroom (paid with tax dollars) had only 12 members of the public + 19 trustee candidates with the majority of the public sitting in an over flow room watching on line.🤷♀️@_MikeRamsay
