“Love is always deserved by everyone. But it is not always given. No matter where we search, or however much we might long for it. Family is the place where life begins, but it can wound us even as it nurtures, leaving us empty instead of fulfilled.”
@in2the7thmatrix@DocBastard@peterktodd Measles has always killed people. Especially with weak immune systems. My dad almost died of mumps in the forties. Pertussis can be deadly too. That’s why we have mmr and DTap.
This same professor also believed that birth control created micro abortions and that a man couldn’t rape his wife. And he was teaching ETHICS.
The worst part is, he was good-looking and charismatic. I had impressionable friends who worshipped him.
I just remembered the craziest thing I was taught in Christian college.
I had an ethics professor who argued that women whose breasts were “fondled” before marriage were whores in the eyes of God, according to one very specific Old Testament verse.

28. Evangelicalism, like any fundamentalism, is literally a cycle of abuse. Authoritarianism is abuse. It is fundamentalism of a sort enforced on a large social scale. To me, it currently feels America itself is turning into a giant Christian school. #ExposeChristianSchools
-You are not a disappointment.
-You are not bad.
-You are not the things you’ve done.
-You are not responsible for the things that happened to you as a child or teenager.
-The only person you can change is you.
Feel free to keep them for yourself.
I found out yesterday that I'm on some sort of anti-vaxxer shame list. My full name even! I honestly don't know what I even did, I rarely ever talk about how stupid anti-vaxxers are.
@Riginal_Zin @faithbartl92@C_Stroop That was my life K5-2nd grade and I can still see the inside of my cubicle dividers 20+ years later. I was “lucky” in that I often finished my pace work early and was allowed to wander the school running errands for teachers or perusing the meager library.
@Carissa12Nicole Thank you very much for this. Pregnancy destroyed my already fragile mental health. I had bad anxiety during and then delayed PPD. Which is why I’ll never go through it again, both for the sake of my child and my own sake.
Hey Twitter. So FS & I were already broke & then my job caught fire (literally) & is now closed until further notice. Yall know I don't ask this often but we could use a hand. If anyone wants to help us eat, my Venmo is @ kylie.groat. Thanks loves 💜
Today I had to be the go-between for my adopted sister and her mom (who emotionally abused me) about a serious mental health issue. Then husband’s family scheduled a meeting about his mom’s probably-cancer at the same time as my therapy & he refused to tell them I go to therapy
so I had to text my therapist to tell her I wouldn’t be there and I accidentally called her by the name of my writing mentor in the text, so basically fuck this day.
@Marcieee94 You’re correct. Only 4 of the teachers at our school had degrees! The rest barely had high school educations—some were recently graduated alumni of the school itself. Which is very circular.
@DJSHIRE I know a lot of people would say I’m just stupid, but I tested above my grade level in other areas and I’m an excellent speller/written communicator. I always suspected I had some sort of learning disability in mathematics, I just didn’t know the name.
My Christian school used the ACE curriculum until the early 90s and continued to teach bad science, creationism, watered down math, and English that only included books within the narrow parameters of “Christian Literature.”

@DJSHIRE That can be an indicator. It was a challenge for me to learn to tell time & make change. I also have trouble reading a map and doing math in my head. I only recently taught myself how to divide fractions for baking. You can google tests to tell you if you have it.
