51 local Councillors, @Bobby_Dean and @LukeTaylorLD – standing up for Sutton.
Promoted by Sutton Liberal Democrats, Kennedy House, 5 Nightingale Rd, SM5 2DN.
BREAKING!
Today we're launching 'Keep Sutton Moving Forward', our manifesto for the 2026 local elections.
It showcases the bold, ambitious and vibrant ideas that the Liberal Democrats stand ready to deliver to deliver the brightest possible future for our borough.
🧵 The Conservatives' rejection of closer ties with Europe has cemented their position as a pointless anti-growth anti-business party.
Our @LibDems plan to Get Britain Growing Again will turbo-charge our economy, starting with a new Growth and Defence Partnership with Europe.
Unregulated US tech platforms pose a threat to UK financial resilience.
I’ve urged our regulators to work across borders to stamp out the threat. Quotes below 👇

Last week, I had the privilege of making my first big speech on the main stage at Lib Dem Conference. I shared my story and how it motivates me to fight for a fairer deal for families across the country.
We initially thought the footage had been lost but a big thank you to @SkyNews for recovering it!
We need to rethink the fiscal rules. Not so we can borrow more but so we can spend better.
I wrote an essay for the New Economics Foundation that outlines the three changes we need to make to get our economy working for the long term. Read it here 👇

It is disgraceful to learn of firms exploiting legal loopholes to avoid their responsibilities. Using administration as a backdoor to strip out compensation claims, while holding on to the profitable parts of the business sets a dangerous precedent.
The FCA should be protecting consumers who were ripped off. It is disgraceful that they are giving firms a get out of jail free card in this way and I urged them to change their position on the deal.

Our call for an independent review into the closure of the maternity unit has been answered.
Two assessments are now underway following the discovery of problems with the building’s pipework.
The first will look at whether the Women's Health Unit can remain open while repairs take place, and the second will explore whether services could be relocated elsewhere on the St Helier Hospital site.
I will do everything I can to keep services at St Helier during the critical works.
Thirty years ago, the murder of Tamil school girl Krishanthy Kumaraswamy led to the discovery of the Chemmani mass graves. Nearly 600 human remains have been uncovered, making Chemmani the largest mass grave excavated in Sri Lanka.
Tamil victims and families of the disappeared deserve truth, justice and accountability. There must be a fully funded, independent international investigation.
Incredible how little attention this has got. Masked men come to Dover in a planned action and blocked our nation's busiest port.
None were detained. Good job they weren't holding signs about Palestine or climate change or they'd be in court by now!

Tory and Reform MPs don't like to hear it, but fixing their Brexit mess is the only way to end the cost-of-living crisis.
And that means joining the Single Market.
Britain isn’t broken. It’s being held back.
Held back by a system that protects failure and rewards the easy way out, instead of delivering the bold change our country needs.
It’s time to set Britain free.
It’s time to stop the Spex Offenders.
Nobody should be secretly filmed through smart glasses and have it shared with millions online.
Liberal Democrats are demanding stronger safeguards, including a ban on convicted sex offenders being able to purchase them.
I've written to the Prime Minister ahead of his first statement later today, with a clear message:
Our politics is broken and we can’t fix our country until we fix our politics.
Chester is running to be Westminster Dog of the Year. Cast your vote for him here👇

Westminster dog of the year is run by the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club to highlight importance of responsible dog ownership.
Our politics is broken and we can’t fix our country until we fix the system.
Andy Burnham has said this himself - if he doesn’t act, he will fail like all the other Prime Ministers that came before him.
@HinaBokhariLD had the opportunity to speak to BBC London about the desperate need to address the important and immediate issue of burial space in London.
People want to know that if their car is stolen, the police will investigate and bring those responsible to justice. But, instead when I speak to victims they say the police show up and simply give them a crime reference number.
While it is good that Sutton has relatively low rates compared with the rest of London, it is an injustice every time this sort of crime goes unresolved. We urgently need to restore community policing. For too long police have been over stretched and under funded.
