Those who know me personally know I DO NOT go out on Fridays.

There is a reason. 😂

A few years ago, I was drinking alone at my local in Kingeero on a Friday night.

At around 2 a.m., I decided I had donated enough money to the bar and it was time to go home.

Problem: no matatus.

Then it started raining heavily.

So there I was, drunk, wet and standing by the road trying to hitch a ride.

After a few minutes, I waved at an approaching Toyota Prado.

To my surprise, it stopped right beside me.

God is good. 🙏🏾

I opened the passenger door, jumped in and said, “Asante sana boss.”

The Prado started moving.

As I reached for the safety belt, I turned to introduce myself to the driver…

THERE WAS NOBODY THERE.

😭😭😭

No driver.

No passenger.

Just me inside a Prado moving through Kingeero at 2 a.m. in the rain.

At this point, alcohol left my bloodstream immediately.

I wanted to jump out, but the car was moving and I wasn’t ready to meet God through a road accident.

Then we approached a bend.

Suddenly…

A HAND CAME THROUGH THE DRIVER’S WINDOW AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL.

😭😭😭😭

I nearly died.

A few minutes later, another bend.

The hand appeared AGAIN and turned the steering wheel.

Now I knew my Kingeero ancestors had finally located me.

At the third bend, I said enough is enough.

I opened the door and jumped.

Landed straight inside a ditch full of rainwater.

I got up and ran like a man who had personally seen Satan.

Luckily, there was a bar nearby.

I entered shaking, ordered four beers and started narrating my encounter with the supernatural to anybody willing to listen.

About 30 minutes later, three men walked into the bar.

Completely soaked.

One of them looked at me.

Looked again.

Then started laughing uncontrollably while pointing at me.

Finally he shouted:

“SI HUYU NI ULE MLEVI ALIINGIA GARI TUKISUKUMA?”

😭😭😭😭😭😭

Apparently the Prado had broken down.

These poor men had been pushing it through the rain…

Anyway, that is why I don’t go out on Fridays.

Goodnight people. I’m off to bed.

I have already survived enough life-threatening situations caused entirely by alcohol and poor information. 😭😂
