De totale Belgische overheidsschuld bedroeg eind maart 2026 ongeveer 706,6 MILJARD euro. Dat is 109,1% van ons bruto binnenlands product.

En het wordt erger. Het officiële Monitoringcomité verwacht voor 2026 een begrotingstekort van: €34,1 miljard. Dat komt neer op ongeveer €93,4 M/dag, €3,9 M/u.. bijna €65.000 per minuut

Terwijl je dit bericht gedurende één minuut leest, geeft de Belgische overheid dus, gemiddeld over het jaar gerekend, ongeveer €65.000 meer uit dan ze ontvangt.

Dit is dus geen tijdelijk ongelukje. Het is chronisch. Regeringen komen. Regeringen gaan. Links, rechts, centrum, paars, blauw, rood, geel. Maar de structurele begrotingsproblemen, die blijven.

België is nu al wereldtop in belasting op arbeid, gemiddeld 52% van het loon gaat naar de staat, die er onbeholpen, onbekwaam, onzorgzaam mee blijft omspringen. Een systematisch falend systeem. Maar wij moeten het voelen..

WANNEER GAAN WE HET EENS OVER DE UITGAVEN HEBBEN?

Over:

waar iedere euro naartoe gaat.
welke uitgaven noodzakelijk zijn.
welke efficiënt zijn.
welke subsidies nog te verdedigen zijn.
hoeveel onze complexe staatsstructuur kost.
welke internationale engagementen we aangaan.
hoeveel extra miljarden naar defensie gaan.
en welke uitgaven de burger zelf nooit zou prioriteren.

Over de feitelijke verdeling van honderden miljarden euro publiek geld heeft de burger nul komma nul zeggenschap.

Geen burgerbegroting. Geen referendum over grote budgettaire keuzes. Geen mogelijkheid om te zeggen: meer hiervan, minder daarvan.

De rekening daarentegen, die krijgen we wel gepresenteerd. Telkens weer.

Niet zij moeten zich beraadslagen over ons geld, maar wij. Niet zij moeten de vrijgeleide blijven krijgen om ons geld incompetent te verkwisten, maar wij.

Het is aan ons om hén ter verantwoording te roepen en ons niet langer te laten afstraffen voor zoveel onkunde en belastinggeweld.
