What exactly were they trying to achieve with this uniform?
A police uniform is more than fabric and colour. It is part of the identity of the State. It should project authority, professionalism, discipline and confidence.
Think about a visitor landing at JKIA for the first time. One of the first representatives of the Kenyan government they encounter may be a police officer. That uniform becomes part of their first impression of the country.
Instead, this design looks like it belongs to an entirely different profession. There is nothing commanding, distinctive or dignified about it.
We should be asking whether anyone with a serious understanding of public-sector design, policing and national image was involved in creating it.
If the police are the face of law and order, their uniform should look like it belongs to people entrusted with law and order. This one simply doesn't.
