The #SWA was pleased to welcome The School District of Palm Beach County Board Member Erica Whitfield for a presentation and tour of our facilities, including Renewable Energy Facility 2. During her visit, Ms. Whitfield took time to learn more about our operations, including how we manage the county’s waste, convert waste to renewable energy and maintain our position as a leader in Florida for recycling, while continuing to advance solutions that serve the needs of our growing community. We appreciate her interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the SWA’s work and her commitment to staying engaged with the issues and challenges facing #PalmBeachCounty. We value opportunities like this to connect with community leaders who are invested in learning about the systems and services that support our county’s quality of life.

June 1 is #WorldReefAwarenessDay, a reminder that what we throw AWAY doesn’t go “away.” For #PalmBeachCounty, protecting our reefs starts with responsible waste management.
The #SWA works year-round to reduce litter, prevent pollution and keep harmful materials out of our waterways. When trash and chemicals are not disposed of responsibly, they can travel through storm drains and canals to the ocean, threatening coral reefs and marine life.
Residents can make a difference by #recycling right, reducing single-use plastics and using proper disposal programs for household hazardous waste.
Healthy reefs begin with clean communities. Learn More: https://t.co/7n0vMz6ZJI

Happy #NationalAlligatorDay! Industry and nature are celebrated along the #SWA Greenway Trail System’s six miles of public use trails on 300 acres of conservation land. Explore by foot or bicycle but keep a sharp eye out for the gators, wading birds and other wildlife that call these trails home. As a safety reminder, always stay on the trails and never disturb the wildlife.

We were proud to have #SWA team members representing multiple categories at this year’s SWANA Florida Road‑E‑O. The event highlights the skill, safety and professionalism of solid waste drivers, operators and mechanics.
Several team members earned 3rd Place finishes in their respective competitions, a strong reflection of their dedication and expertise.
These competitors took on obstacle courses that mirror real working conditions, including tight maneuvering within residential areas and precision landfill exercises. Their performance reflects the commitment that keeps our operations safe, efficient and moving every day. We're proud of our team for representing the SWA with excellence.

Today is #InternationalPlasticFreeDay, a time to highlight the importance of reducing plastic waste and protecting the environment.
Simple choices like using reusable bags, bottles and containers can help keep plastics out of waterways and communities. If you must use plastic, be sure to #recycleright. Plastic bottles and containers should be placed in the blue #recycling bin to ensure they are properly processed and kept out of the waste stream. Plastic bags are not recyclable in #PalmBeachCounty and should never be placed in recycling bins. Always put plastic bags in the trash.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's #RecyclingInAction Open House Tours at the #SWA Recovered Materials Processing Facility (RMPF/recycling) and Renewable Energy Facility 2 (REF 2). The tours proved to be both educational and inspiring as participants learned about recycling collections, sorting and processing of recyclable materials in #PalmBeachCounty — and why the SWA has ranked first among all Florida counties for recycling for the past three years. Participants also saw where #PBC trash goes (not to the landfill!) to be turned into enough electricity to power 90,000 homes. Thank you, The Association of Plastic Recyclers for supporting efforts that advance recycling education and best practices by leading the organization of these national tours.
