We should care about the Ghost Dance Movement because through this the relationship between the U.S. and Native Americans was forever changed. When the Ghost Dance was brought to an end Natives were forced to assimilate to American culture which changed our society.
The Ghost Dance was a powerful tool used by Native Americans in resisting assimilation efforts of white settlers. This movement ultimately lead to the battle of wounded knee (won by the U.S.) and put an end to the Ghost Dance Movement. For Natives, this was a devastating loss.
The Ghost Dance, created in 1889, is a circular communal ritual performed by Native Americans, created by Wovoka, in efforts of resisting anti-assimilation efforts of white settlers. They believe it would bring back ancestors, restore the Buffalo, and eradicate white settlers.
