Microsoft ($MSFT) plans to reveal several new artificial intelligence models next week during its Build conference, including an in-house coding model, according to The Information.
The new model is expected to strengthen Microsoft's position in the AI coding realm, as the rise of Cursor and Anthropic's Claude Code has chipped away at GitHub Copilot's market share, the report said. Other new AI models unveiled at the event will likely cover transcription, thinking, speech, and images, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman had reportedly been limited in building new in-house models due to the tech giant's deal with OpenAI (OPENAI). That veil was lifted in April when the two companies renegotiated the deal's terms. Microsoft plans to market its new in-house models as a less expensive alternative to OpenAI and Anthropic.
