From Friday nights in Boerne to Saturdays in the Valley, Bush is carrying that underdog mentality with a hip-hop edge, ready to show he’s more than just a leg.

At Boerne High, Bush stacked All-State punter honors and still racked up 94 tackles, 2 picks, and a rep as one of the top 25 specialists in Texas. He wasn’t just punting — he was punishing. A real BBQ pit mix of smoke and fire, giving his squad both field position and muscle.

But Ty’s football journey didn’t just start in Boerne — it runs deep in Canyon. He suited up at Canyon High under his dad, now UTRGV head coach Travis Bush. That wasn’t a father handing his son freebies — it was old-school grind. Ty had to prove he belonged, stacking tackles and making plays while his dad pushed him like any other player. That bond between father and son became a foundation: respect, discipline, and toughness, all built under the Friday night lights.

Canyon High itself has always been about dogs, not flash. The Cougars sent out ballers like Keenan Howell, a lockdown DB who went on to Texas State, and baseball standouts like Preston Freeman and Ashton Whitley who kept repping the 830 beyond high school. It’s the kind of place that might not flood the NFL, but it forges players that earn their way, brick by brick. That’s the same fire Ty Bush carried when he lined up there — learning toughness in a program where respect gets earned, not given.

And it goes back another generation. Ty’s grandfather, Coach Rick Bush, is a Texas high school football name that carries weight — decades of building programs and molding young athletes across the state. That three-generation football tree — from Rick to Travis to Ty — is Valley gold. It’s tradition, it’s family, it’s football in their blood.
