Today is my last day working for the Red Cross. I’ve met so many amazing people who are genuinely good and just want to make the world a little bit brighter, one act of kindness at a time. Of course I’ll have to carry on volunteering! Best wishes to you all - and thank you.
I have a service user who is desperate for a fridge/freezer and has very limited funds - can my friends in Leeds please RT to see if the world of Twitter can help a vulnerable person in need... thank you in advance!
I made the mistake of telling one of the nurses that it was "quiet" this morning on the ward. Since then we've had two crash alarms (luckily false), a very upset patient screaming and some heavy machinery outside the ward window. I can only apologise for jinxing it.
She told me to always remember that there will be someone out there worse off than we are and to remain positive and proactive. She said that was her secret to her long life. I love meeting these people and I’ll miss it when I leave the organisation in 3 weeks!
Met an incredible lady today who is nearly 100 years old. She told me all about the struggles of growing up in war-time Britain. Her first husband was killed fighting in France just 3 weeks after their wedding, struggling to live on rations during and after the war
How her street and family spent evenings huddled in an underground bunker to protect them from Luftwaffe bombing and how her second marriage ended tragically too when her husband died suddenly. She told me all this whilst remaining cheerful, with a sad smile.
