I look at what white creatives are doing in our industry right now and it breaks my heart.

Young white directors and producers are playing with ideas, creating great projects, experimenting with modern innovative technologies, telling interesting stories, etc.

I’m jealous as hell.

Thina, we are all doing the same thing. We are writing the same stories. Producing the same concepts. We are using the same methods, no elevation.

All because; for black content in Mzansi, we are in a chokehold of “that’s what the audience wants”.

Our black filmmakers, actors and creatives, go to study and pay lots of money to come into an industry that will have them make shows and films that look like TikTok skits.

The whites are making shows like Die Brug, Spinners, Recipes For Murder, etc — different concepts, shot in different styles.

Thina on the black side … you can’t tell one show from the next. Same stories, same style, same concepts, same ideas. And all these telenovelas and reality shows 🤦🏾‍♂️

I pray we stop thinking our audiences are too low grade that they would not appreciate change and some cool, innovative and MODERN things.
