Dear Resident, no I will not "get her out of here" while she stands crying nearby while we perform CPR on her child. In fact I'll do quite the opposite.

Please remember compassion in these moments. It hurts to lose a pt but it hurts more to lose your child.

What they don’t tell you when you first start nursing is that there will be pts who make you terrified of your own mortality. Being in your 20s & taking care of a pt your same age w/ end stage metastatic cancer is heart wrenching & terrifying.
