You're not the reason they got run over.
The culprit is everyone who has closed their gardens off, preventing hedgehogs from travelling through them and forcing them to use dangerous roads.
You are on their route.
All you'll achieve by not feeding them is allowing those who do make it safely across the road to go without food or water.
And I know you wouldn't want that.
Instead, carry on feeding and share your knowledge with your neighbours - your side of the road *and the other side*.
Tell them that hedgehogs are being forced to cross the road because they can't find enough food on one side, and that folk need to open their gardens, create a hedgehog highway, and provide food and water if they can.
Write a short simple leaflet and print a few out, pop them in letterboxes. You can do it anonymously if you'd like.
You'll find most people will be so grateful to have this knowledge and will act on it, and you'll save so many lives.❤️

I'm sorry to say this latest craze is harmful.
Please DO provide clean water.
But please DON'T fill the dish with stones.
And certainly not marbles - glass will reach fatal temperatures within minutes of being in the sun, and will kill any insect landing on them.
Water needs to be fresh and clean *every day*.
If you put a lot of stones in it, they can harbour all sorts of dangerous water-borne pathogens and bacteria build up.
It will also make the water a mosquito breeding ground and the stones will harbour deadly parasites, like fluke.
Plus bees can get trapped and drown between the stones.
So please just provide a clean dish of tap water, with *one* easy to clean half submerged stone for the insects, or a few floating leaves, or a half submerged stick which can be replaced daily.🥰

Much more than important than a house is a good feeder, which will keep them food safe and hygienic and away from cats. If you’re going to spend, that’s where your money will do the most good.

In Thailand, they make cones similar to this & we bring it as offerings to the temples, the teachers, ceremonies, & shrines. I highly recommend doing this & even leaving a quick one for the spirits of the land. You can gather all of the supplies on a walk
