Helen Zille and the Institute of Race Relations must take full responsibility for the collapse of the stable coalition government I was running because they accused me for concentrating too much efforts in areas where people don’t pay taxes and don’t vote for the DA. When I resigned upon the return of Helen in the leadership of the DA, because I didn’t want to be associated with South Africans like her, Council had already approved and awarded 154 buildings to the private sector on long leases. These properties were going to yield:
1. R32 billion construction investments into the city
2. ⁠Create 22 thousand permanent jobs during the construction phase
3. ⁠Create a historic 14 thousand housing units
One of Helen’s problems was must demand that 30% of the units to be affordable accommodation for our poor residents and students.
When Geoff Makhubo took over, with support from some DA councillors mobilised by Helen, dropped the Inner City Rejuvenation Plan.

@deptoflabour I’ve also observed that the government also doesn’t follow the basic employment rules where EPWS are still paid R3500 instead of the minimum wage. Most been working for over 5 years and not taken permanent or absorbed by the government. Mostly from health department
