Mr. Epstein’s banal, eye-rolling politics are the statistical mean of every ‘80-‘12 NYT, WaPo, WSJ urbanite. That’s the secret, folks. He wasn’t “blending in” to the social circles he carried out his dealings with, be it the financial or more salacious side. He genuinely possessed those same beliefs.

This isn’t some slam-dunk, “haha, your side had a guy who was a bad dude” moment. It’s the reality of Liberalism™. You can be Hillary Clinton, Jeffrey Epstein, or your local 40-something librarian and possess 90-100% of the illusive Liberal™ worldview.

It’s window-dressing. It doesn’t mean anything. It’s not on the elemental chart. All this man was at his political core is that guy you probably know who says, “Man, I loved Obama, but I sort of miss being able to say ‘broad.’” Beware of the Liberal™, because they possess nothing other than the husk of formless ideology.

100%, Mass Democracy only maintains its rule for a very brief amount of time, during an essentially anarchical state, like the apex of the French Rev. It’s more of a transitionary marker than a sustained form of governance.

To say that we live in mass democracy in America at present would certainly be a misnomer or at least needs to be heavily qualified.

It’s a reference / title that is used by many conservative and post-liberal thinkers to describe mass democratic rule. The one that uses it most frequently that I’ve encountered is Russell Kirk

@ChristianHeiens This is because, as Russell Kirk expounds on, Liberalism is a necessarily “secondary” or parasitic ideology. It can only emerge on top of a pre-existing social structure and feed on the things of the past, all the while rejecting those things necessary to sustain it.

4/ It is a sympathetic, and perhaps natural, reaction from those who wish to reject the moniker of Conservative. In fact, it might be necessary for the time being to distinguish and denote sides in the war. But the problem is that by rejecting "Conservative," you invite the opportunity for the baby to be thrown out with the bathwater. Denouncing the label of "Conservative" might be appropriate, as long as we maintain to its actual oft' forgotten meaning of "preserving the Permament Things."

3/ We have arrived at our problem. What are the Permanent Things worth preserving? The only real inherent pillar of meaning behind this term is a form of stability. Beyond recognizing a common-shared goal of relative stability, a Conservative's definition of the Permanent Things can vary dramatically. Hell, many Conservatives consider the 1964 Civil Rights Act as a Permanent Thing.
