Maternal Mortality
Number of deaths per 100,000 population. Annual average for 2018 through 2022. Size proportional to state population.
Maternal deaths include deaths of women while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.
The regression model suggests a significant positive relationship between the Trump vote percentage and maternal mortality rates, meaning that states with higher percentages of Trump voters tend to have higher maternal mortality rates. However, state population size does not appear to be a significant predictor in this model. The model explains about 28-32% of the variation in maternal mortality rates, leaving a substantial amount of unexplained variability that could be attributed to other factors not included in this analysis.
