Making chess more accessible, inclusive, and impactful ♟️
Through the Sprout Ideas Fellowship, Muhammad Saim expanded the reach of his youth-led nonprofit, Checkmate Foundation Canada which uses chess as a tool for education, connection, and community building.
He engaged over 200 community members, hosted events, and expanded partnerships with schools, libraries, and community organizations. Through the project they also supported youth, newcomers, women, families, and underserved communities through free chess programming.
More than a game, chess became a pathway to critical thinking, confidence, belonging, and mental well-being. By creating welcoming spaces for learning and connection, this project helped bring communities together while reducing barriers to participation.
