A teenage drug dealer known as 'Pablo' who ran a 'graft line' in Salford selling heroin and crack has avoided prison after being given a 'one and only chance' by a judge.
Luke Gaffney was one of the main players behind the 'Rocket' drugs line which operated around Mandley Park in Broughton, Manchester Crown Court was told. It used runners as young as 15 and worked out of nearby properties which had been ‘cuckooed’ from their vulnerable residents to prepare and sell Class A drugs to addicts.
Gaffney, 19, originally got involved in the operation through a mixture of 'naivety and grooming' but later 'graduated' to a management role. The Rocket was a 'franchise' of a larger drugs operation, the court was told, and would send out so-called ‘flare messages’, mass texts sents to hundreds of people, alerting customers when drugs were available.
