Norovirus: the world's #1 cause of acute gastroenteritis. Not flu-related despite the nickname β it's a highly contagious RNA virus. Spreads via the faecal-oral route: contaminated food, water, surfaces, or contact with an infected person. Sudden vomiting + diarrhea, 1-3 days

Big caveat: surveillance is thin. Data comes from just 12 of 48 Sub-Saharan African countries, and some (like Botswana) have no formal reporting system at all. Real burden is probably undercounted. Prevention still comes down to sanitation + hygiene, no vaccine exists yet.
