*Honourable Amos Chibaya Delivers Powerful Speech at Idah Hanyani "Gogo Chihera's" Memorial Service*

The memorial service for Mbuya Idah Hanyani, affectionately known as “Gogo Chihera,” was held on 31st May 2025 at her family home in Glen View. Gogo Chihera, a devoted supporter of Zimbabwe’s most charismatic and youthful leader, President Nelson Chamisa, passed away at the age of 83 on 29th January 2024. The memorial service attracted thousands of family members, church congregants, and citizens, reflecting the profound impact she had on the community.

Gogo Chihera was celebrated as a “Citizen Heroine” and the “golden girl” of the movement for change, well known for her unwavering commitment to transformation, social justice and democracy. Her journey into the public eye began in 2018 when she was famously captured on camera leaving a polling station, declaring, “Ndavhotera President Chamisa!” which translates to "I have voted for President Chamisa." This moment resonated deeply with many Zimbabweans, symbolizing hope and the desire for a brighter future.

During the memorial, Honourable Amos Chibaya honored Gogo Chihera as a courageous woman who dedicated her life to liberating citizens from the oppressive rule of Zanu PF, a regime known for corruption, high unemployment and widespread poverty. Chibaya said that her role in the fight for a more equitable society was critical noting that her spirit would continue to inspire future generations.

Hon. Chibaya urged citizens to remain steadfast in their pursuit of a better Zimbabwe. He called on them to engage actively in the democratic process, emphasizing the importance of voting and organizing to demand employment opportunities, transparency in governance, and an end to corruption. He underscored that the legacy of Gogo Chihera should ignite a collective resolve among citizens to continue her fight for justice and equality.

As the service concluded, attendees reflected on Gogo Chihera's significant contributions to the nation, vowing to honor her memory by continuing the struggle for a brighter future for all Zimbabweans. Her life and dedication serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of grassroots activism and the vital role each citizen plays in shaping their country's destiny.
