A CHARITY established in memory of a teenager who tragically lost his life to knife crime is continuing its mission through the installation of emergency bleed control cabinets.

Merosworld Foundation was founded by Kelly Brown following the devastating loss of her son, 16-year-old Rhamero “Mero” West, who was fatally stabbed during rush hour on a weekday evening in September 2021 after his first day at college.

Uppermill Civic Hall is all set up for the public inquiry into the Transpennine Route Upgrade through Tameside and Saddleworth.

Concerns over diversions as Greenfield Station is reconfigured and replacing Moorgate Halt level crossing and the movement of Mossley Station have seen many voices speaking out.

RESIDENTS across Tameside will soon have new opportunities to influence decisions affecting their towns as a revamped programme of Community Forums launches this month.

The new forums, which replace the borough’s previous Neighbourhood Forums, are intended to strengthen links between residents, councillors and community organisations while providing a platform for people to raise concerns, discuss local priorities and help shape future investment.

The first meetings will begin on June 17 and will be held across five forum areas covering all nine towns in the borough.

Three talented young dancers from Tameside are preparing to take to the stage alongside internationally acclaimed professional performers after earning places in the prestigious English Youth Ballet (EYB) production of Swan Lake.

In March, Holly Philburn, Margot Kennedy and Hope Warner successfully secured places in the elite cast of 97 dancers following highly competitive auditions.

A popular summer event celebrating local food, drink and community spirit is set to return to Stalybridge this June.

Stalybridge Street Fest will take place in Armentieres Square on three evenings throughout the summer, bringing together street food traders, artisan producers, entertainment and a vibrant festival atmosphere in the heart of the town.

The first event takes place on Friday, June 12, with further Street Fest evenings scheduled for July 10 and August 14. Each event will run from 5pm to 9pm.

Hundreds of people queued to take a look inside a new animal-assisted therapy centre as it officially opened its doors to the community in Broadbottom.

Inspiring Animal Therapy CIC celebrated the launch of its new home at the Etherow Centre, on the border of Tameside and Glossopdale, with an open day that attracted visitors keen to learn more about the therapeutic benefits of working with animals.

The centre has been established in response to growing concerns over mental health and emotional wellbeing, particularly among children and young people.

STALYBRIDGE’S MP says he will do all he can to help the town’s archery club hit the target it needs to secure a new clubhouse.

Currently housed in what was a cricket pavilion, first put up in 1961, the time has come for a new facility.

But the money it would cost to install an improved home that could help it go on to bigger and better things is substantial.

Shoppers are being invited to show their support for Ashton-under-Lyne’s independent businesses as voting opens for the Ashton Independent Retail Awards 2026.

ADULTS who thought higher education was out of reach could soon benefit from a major overhaul of England’s student finance system.

And Tameside College will be among the first institutions selected to offer flexible new courses.

Under reforms due to launch from September 2026, people will be able to access student finance for shorter courses and individual modules for the first time, allowing them to build qualifications over time rather than committing to a traditional full-time degree.

TAMESIDE’S Green Party has expressed deep concern and dismay after people were offered free pesticide spraying to combat a midge problem.

The Correspondent told in 2021 how those living near Audenshaw Reservoirs pleaded with Tameside Council and United Utilities to find a solution.

EIGHT community organisations across the east of Tameside have secured funding following a public event where residents were invited to hear pitches and vote on which projects should be supported.

The Tameside Communities Grant event took place recently at St Paul’s Church in Stalybridge.

TAMESIDE Council has submitted an improvement plan after inspectors found a ‘mixed but improving picture’ of its adult services.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out an assurance visit in November 2025 and found a number of concerns.

People told how accessing assessments, including financial, was not always consistent and uncertainty about care costs created additional worry for some.
