Hey drivers! Consider this your warning before it becomes a citation.
Speeding isn't just against the law. It puts lives at risk. During Operation Southern Slow Down, our officers are increasing enforcement to reduce speed-related crashes and keep our roads safe.
Remember, the fastest way to get where you’re going is to slow down, respect the speed limit, and look out for others. Every mile per hour matters. Drive safely.
Most car doors were locked. One wasn't...that was all it took! As a result, four juveniles were arrested overnight.
Be sure to lock your doors and take your valuables inside every time.

“So much life was on the other end of that shift….” — Brenda Marrero, sister of Fallen Hero Lois Marrero
Today, on the 25th anniversary of her line-of-duty death, Master Police Officer Lois Marrero was honored with the re-dedication of her memorial sign along the 4300 block of Kennedy Boulevard.
Lois was a beloved sister, aunt, friend, and hometown hero whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire. May her legacy live on through the stories shared by those who knew and loved her, through the dedication of the officers who continue to serve, and through every person who travels Kennedy Boulevard and is reminded that a hero’s sacrifice is never forgotten.
On this day, 19-year department veteran, Master Police Officer Lois Marrero was checking an apartment complex for a bank robbery suspect when he opened fire. Officer Marrero was struck and consequently died as a result of her injuries. She was the first female police officer killed in the line of duty in the department's history.
Officer Marrero, your service will never be forgotten. We honor you today and always.

As Fourth of July weekend quickly approaches, remember captains, the safety of your crew starts with you. Plan ahead, wear your life jackets, and make safety your top priority before leaving the dock.
On this day in 2010, Officer David Curtis, 31, and Officer Jeffrey Kocab, 31, died after attempting to arrest a passenger following a traffic stop. After making initial contact, Officer Curtis called for backup, and Officer Kocab arrived. Together, they approached the suspect's vehicle. The next communication heard was from a citizen calling 911 to report that two officers had been shot. Both officers were pronounced deceased later that morning.
Officer Curtis and Officer Kocab, your service will never be forgotten. We honor you today and always.
