Football players from Galatasaray and Besiktas are among 1,024 players suspended by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) as part of an investigation into betting.
Galatasaray defender Eren Elmali was pulled from Turkey’s squad preparing to play World Cup qualifying games against Spain and Bulgaria this month due to his alleged involvement in the case.
A TFF statement detailed players who have been identified as having bet on football and who have been referred to the country’s Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK).
In total, 27 players in the Turkish Super Lig, the country’s top flight, have been suspended, with 77 players included from the second division 1. Lig.

On World Cup ticket prices, dynamic pricing & ticket scalping for profit. It's a huge problem.
The average fan gets priced out. The fans who are most responsible for creating atmosphere are priced out.
Unfortunately nothing new in American sports, but something needs to change.
The underlying numbers today are insane. This was a playoff caliber match. To note, this is only with 1 Senior DP on the pitch. Definitely excited to see Velde and Carballo. #RCTID
@SportsGuyJeremy Our theory: this is about Fizzer’s 50th match as Timbers coach. Either Matchday 12 (if the Timbers are counting all comps) or 16 (just counting league matches.)
🇧🇷🪵Evander commented in his interview with me and Cristian about all his frustration and the reasons behind the controversy at the end of the year.
Check out what Evander had to say:
"So, as I mentioned, it was already out on the internet, right?
In our talks, there were contractual issues. Back then, the sporting directors were Gavin and Ned. They traveled to Denmark to sign me, fully aware of my situation. We had conversations, and they made promises. Ned knew about all of them.
Shortly after, before I officially signed, Gavin was dismissed due to club issues, and Ned was the one who finalized my contract. He knew everything that was happening.
I played last year and this year, respecting the club. Even though the promises we discussed weren't kept, I reached a point where I had to speak out. We all have our limits, and I had mine, especially after the way we lost at home.
It was a mix of everything. Phil knew the whole situation, but then he went on to say in an interview that he didn’t like my reaction. I was a bit upset by that because I had every reason not to play for the rest of the season.
Still, I kept playing because he asked me to. He even pleaded with me, saying I was the team’s best player and they needed me.
So I stayed out of respect for him, the players, who had nothing to do with it, and the fans. I gave it my all, especially this season, since things were shaping up for a good ending. We wanted to qualify for the playoffs and have a shot at the title.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, and with everything building up, I ended up letting it out a bit.
But it’s also important for the fans to know what happened. Sometimes we go through things, and nobody sees what’s happening. When things don’t go right on the field, there are often reasons behind it that we don’t understand either.
It was a moment where I had to vent and speak up. I tried to hold back as much as I could, but that was my limit. I wanted to make things clear because I hope no one else at the club has to go through what I did. I wasn’t the first, and I hope I’m the last to go through this.
We always hope the club keeps growing, bringing in new players who will succeed here.
That was what the whole process was about, and now we’ll see how things go from here."
